Shared communication opens the door to change and serendipity effects; tools features trimming drive flexibility in autonomy; but what about cost? More, can needed features be decided a priori by a software company or shall the crowd give the feedback in plain 2.0 style?
Typical offer on the market is all but 2.0 in essence. Take what they give, you cannot change or adapt because you do not have basic control on the system. Alternatively, you can struggle to integrate common open source pieces by yourself.
Our approach is different: we base on a solid, flexible, generic, widespread, easily customizable open source platform as Drupal and on an open source collaboration suite over it as Open Atrium. The wide community will creatively deliver the communication features that have much sense, while we will:

Community development is much faster and provides more value than any commercial tool written privately from scratch: this is one of the 2.0 levers. Thus, you can own the cheaper low cost Enterprise 2.0 while gaining the best of the larger community, enjoy support, integrate easy-to-use tools incrementally, and keep the open choice to customize everything by yourself.
